Here comes another season of exciting, fun and deucational workshops for children ages 5-17. Check this website for information on spring and summer workshops in 2009.

All workshops are Monday-Friday 8:45 am - 1:00 pm, unless otherwise noted.
Workshops are limited to 12 participants, except where noted.
Performances will be on Friday at 12:15 PM,
unless otherwise noted.
Participants should bring a snack and lunch.

Full payment is due in order to reserve a space. All workshops are filled on a first come, first served basis. No phone reservations. A confirmation letter will be sent beginning in early April. If a workshop is full, you will be called immediately.

Mystery !

July 7-11
Ages 8-12
Fee $170
Create your own spine tingling mystery, filled with plot twists, red herrings and surprises. Develop a mind-boggling plot, invent unique and sinister characters, leave a trail of clues and solve it all in half an hour. Using improvisation and theatre games, actors will develop and stage their own Mystery!

Fantasy, fairy tales, fables and fun ... the younger actress/actor will enjoy this chance to create small scenes through theatre games and the use of simple costumes and props. A short presentation will take place on the final day.

Stretch it, twist it, turn it all about: the truth is a funny thing. Seems to change itself around depending on whose telling it. Whether it’s a ghost Story, Liar’s Contest, or simply Braggin’, the Tall Tale is all about who’s telling the story (and who they’re trying to impress). It’s all in your point of view….In this workshop we’ll test the limits of how far the truth can be stretched, and create an original play based on perspective and a healthy dose of exaggeration.

Explore powers of transformation, transfiguration and improvisation through the alchemy of theatre. In this workshop we’ll create and perform a play based on the wonders of magic and the immortality of myth.
Comedy with Style

Take a simple scene. Play it straight. Then play the same scene as, say, a Comedy. Then as a Tragedy. Maybe as a Musical, a Game Show and then a Western. We’ll mix up theatrical, film and television styles to create a fast paced variety show guaranteed to puzzle, delight and amuse.
SKETCH COMEDY!

Join a team of young comedy writers and create your own sketch comedy show. Whether this is all brand new for you or you already know your own style and process, this workshop will get you doing your best, most hilarious stuff. Work with award winning playwright and actor/comedian Steve Henderson, co-founder, writer and performer of Disturbed Theatre to find the funny in everything you can imagine. Swashbuckling Shakespeare
Taught by Jeff Lord and Moe McElligot
August 11-15
Ages 13 – 17
Fee $170
Match wits and clash swords in this exciting workshop. Join Jeff Lord, certified fight choreographer and Moe McElligott for a week of sword and word play. Actors will work on the basics of the safe use of stage weapons, learn fight choreography and create great fight scenes from Shakespeare. A performance of Swashbuckling Shakespearean Scenes will take place on the final day. This workshop is limited to 10 participants.

The world of fairy tales is a world full of mystery and adventure, where characters must journey to far away, often dangerous places and call upon their courage and quick wits to complete a task. This workshop will explore some less well known but equally wonderful stories, filled with animals, heroes and heroines, villains, royalty and just plain regular folk
Hampshire Shakespeare Under the Stars will be announcing another season in the near future. The season will include another terrific opportunity for some young actors to participate in both a main stage and Young Company production. Last summer, the cast performed As You Like It, directed by Chris Rohmann. |
